Ok. I am going out on a limb on this one. A Maple tree limb that is; being Canadian and all.
Although I am no Canadian expert, I have lived in 7 cities in Canada, and 7 other countries so moving and me are a little like peanut butter and bread; at least in our house.
So here I am walking out on that limb; wobbly as it is and I am going to declare:
Cobourg is the friendliest place to live in Canada.
From the dentist who has a VW bug in his office to the natural health store to the grocery store to the salesclerks at the local mall to the high school to the dog walkers to the second hand stores to the beach goers to the staff at the hospital to the local gym to the curling club to the drivers even, this is hands down the friendliest place I have ever lived in Canada.
Charming, quaint, down to earth, how towns used to be back in the day.
As I glance at the dog walkers, baby strollerers, cyclists, skateboarders, walkers, runners; this is a place that people roam freely and safely; comforted in the knowledge that they too have chosen the friendliest, the most peaceful place to live in Canada.
My photos are limited as apparently it is not cool to take pics of the town you live in when walking with your mom and your dog. Someone might see you! – according to my teen daughter, Jade who now sports purple hair and gets plenty of attention for that fact alone!
While taking a few pictures, we ran into a lovely couple who walk daily by the beach and a gentleman who was concerned about the hood of my car and if it was properly latched. Random friendly acts of kindness are not so “random” here for which I am very grateful.
(Cobourg is a small town located about one hour east of Toronto. We moved here primarily because it is located right on the shores of Lake Ontario so we have a gorgeous beach one block from downtown. Coming from the east coast of Canada, this appeals to us. The super friendly factor we did not know. We just lucked out. 🙂 )

My daughter is a natural redhead. She always hated it and has many different colors. She finally accepted, and loves, her hair color!
Just so you know, there are a lot of bloggers who don’t tell where they live for security reasons. Just a thought.

That is a relief. I wouldn’t want to be the only one who thinks it is great. I am pretty sure it is well-liked by those who live here anyways. Come in the summer on a weekday to avoid some of the crowds. Or spring and just avoid swimming and wander instead.

Lovely pictures! I love random acts of kindness from strangers. Especially in new cities. I witness quite a few in Helsinki and it’s very refreshing after living in some less friendly cities. I look forward to embarrassing my daughter one day too, when she’s old enough 😉

I think it was the time of day. It was pretty quiet. Usually everyone is out and very friendly.

It looks like a really pretty town. And it must be so nice to be that close to the lake. (I always find it amusing when kids deem something inappropriate due to the attention it causes when they usually cause more attention themselves on any given day.)

Absolutely true! So embarrassing to be seen with your mom with a camera than with purple hair and ripped jeans.

My son’s hair has been white, neon blue and pink (all at different times). He recently got his hair dyed red again- to try to cover the pink but because he’s a redhead to begin with it’s a tough job. I’m pretty sure we got more strange looks from him than me. 🙂

Yes, we are loving it too. It was a shot in the dark so to speak as we were supposed to move to Guelph and at the last minute, we needed to move east of Toronto instead.

I’ve really only lived in two places. West Vancouver and now North Vancouver. Both suburbs of Vancouver. My husbands says I’m a bit sheltered and I’m starting to think he’s right. The community that I live in (that is within North Vancouver) is an amazing place to live. Deep Cove is very laid back. Mostly made up of young professionals who like to be active and outdoors on the weekend. However, there a still lots of older people who have lived here since it was just a tiny village on the water. I see them all out on the trails and on the water. Does that count?

That sounds so lovely and quaint. I spent one summer in West Van and loved it. Thought Vancouver would the be the ultimate for a living experience. Still do 🙂
