1. The Short and Sweet Version
Welcome to Four Camels and a Coffee To Go,
This is the story of our blended family in Canada and what happens when 2 (addicted to travel) meet 4 (didn’t know they were addicted to travel) = 6; all of whom now love to travel! One, some or all of us have gone from Canada to Cambodia, Maine to Morocco, Pleasant Bay to Peru, Greece to Guatemala, USA to Uganda, Italy to India and hopefully many more destinations in our future. Join us as our blended family continues their journey as 2 of us spread out to Egypt while 4 remain in Canada – we may be far apart but we are still close in our hearts π
Hope you enjoy our stories and our pics of the usual and the unusual as we move on with our journey.
Happy travels,
Cheryl, Chris, Erin, Allyson, Jade and Abby π
2. The Longer but Still Sweet Version
Welcome to Four Camels and a Coffee To Go,
My name is Cheryl and I am a mom, an obsessed traveller and a teacher. I used to be many things such as a lawyer, a United Nations volunteer, an English teacher, a youth justice worker but most importantly, I was always a traveller.
I began travelling when I was in high school when I took 2 European trips to Greece, Austria, Switzerland and Germany. From that point on, I was hooked. When I finished high school, I did a Rotary exchange and lived in Holland for a year while I attended school and worked at a Turkish day care.
Through out university, I went to Suriname, French Guiana, Trinidad and Belize via Canadian Crossroads International. When I finished my degrees and was officially a lawyer, I worked with the UN in Cambodia for a year setting up the country for its first election since the Killing Fields years. After returning to Canada for a short stint at CARE Canada, I returned to South Africa and Mozambique to work with the UN again.
After that, I taught English in South Korea, travelled again through southeast Asia (Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand), lived in Lesotho (visited Namibia, Swaziland, South Africa), and then returned to Canada to settle down and raise a family. I ended up in Prince Edward Island and became a teacher. I taught for 9 years and there, I met Chris and we began to raise our 4 girls together.
Through the years, we have travelled together as a family to the States (NYC, Boston, Florida), throughout Canada as well as to Guatemala, Holland, Morocco, Colombia and Peru. We have survived a sandstorm in the Sahara, an invasion of red ants in the Guatemalan jungle, the most dangerous snake in Peru and the invasion of the cowboys in Jardin, Colombia.
Presently, our blended family is extra mixed up as 2 of us live in Cairo where I teach at an international school and 4 of us remain in Canada.
Hope you enjoy our stories and pictures of the usual and the unusual. We would love for you to join us on our journey.
Happy travels too,
Cheryl, Chris and the girls π
Happy to have found your blog! I’m also a travel lover so reading your posts will definitely be inspiring! π

Hi Mrs. Clark!
I don’t know if you remember me or not, but I am Sadie Ghiz, one of many grade 3 students that you taught when you were lived in PEI. I would love to hear from you! I left my email in the email box!
Hope to hear from you!

Hi Sadie! Of course I remember you so well. I am so happy you found me here. I haven’t been blogging very much as teaching has taken over my life as well as travelling during my holidays. Life is always interesting in Egypt. I will check for your email. Have a great day and take care! I will send you an email. Ms. Cheryl (my teaching name here… they don’t use last names here!)

You need a “brave traveler award!” Wonder if that exists…? BTW, was going to mention that my step father’s daughter went to Dubai to teach several years ago. She initially went on her own, her husband joining her later after he found a decent job there. They have loved it, absolutely loved it..and there is quite a tight little community of teachers that stick together- I’m not sure they will ever move back to the US..haha. And yes, they have 5 grown kids over here…they are able to get home about 3 times a year.

That sounds wonderful. So happy to hear of situations that work out successfully. Yes, there are some major holidays when you can travel back home or elsewhere. That is an upside to teaching overseas… the holidays are even better than home. And we have good ones here at home as well.

Hi, Cheryl! Love your blog … definitely brings out the travel bug in me! Currently, I’m a mostly a wanna-be traveler. Can you believe I have a passport that has never ever been used … not even once?! Crazy! Alas, money and opportunity have never presented themselves together, but I am praying that one day soon I will be fortuitous enough to have those two travel necessities to align so that I can venture out into some of the exotic places I have longed to see. I have actually done quite a bit of traveling around the US, but for years my desire has been to go to other places worldwide. Oddly enough, one of the places high on my bucket list of trips is Prince Edward Island. π Almost like I’m coming full-circle by reading your blog!

It is so nice to hear from you Paige. Some people will say you can travel without much money but I don’t necessarily agree if planes are involved. The cost of flying is expensive and especially for a family. We felt that we really had to scrimp to make Peru happen last summer and even then, financially it was a hard trip for us with 2 of our girls with us. It was much easier time and money wise when I was travelling alone. I hope that you get the chance to see PEI. It is gorgeous and easy to get around due to its size. If you ever go, please get to Basin Head Provincial Park or otherwise known as Singing Sands… the sand makes a sound when you step on it. Try to avoid Cavendish Beach which is so overrun with tourists and locals know not to go. There are so many others to choose from. I hope your passport gets used sometime soon. Wishing you happy travels outside US someday, Cheryl (but we love the States as well as my husband is a Boston addict and San Fran is one of my top 3 cities in the world. And of course, NY is so much fun too. )
